These are the details for the new proposed restrictions/waiting times/new parking places for Saltburn due to be published for consultation in the Gazette next week. The Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to amend the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (Saltburn, Marske and New Marske)(Waiting and Loading and Parking Places)(Consolidation) Order 2003 as follows:-
a) Create a new Schedule 2.8 Limited waiting 3 hours no return within 3 hours

Is there a problem with parking on Station Square to warrant this? I live slap bang in the middle of the proposed restrictions and have never had a problem parking. Sounds like I’m going to have problems if they introduce the above though.

The impact of these new parking restrictions is going to mean that vehicles are going to park in Bath St, Exeter St and Bristol Ave.
These streets are already congested to the point that residents have to search out places to park their own vehicles.

I agree Mike. People use Dundas St to park their cars and use the train or go to a place of work within the town. These restrictions will now push people into parking in the already busy residential streets. Will residents of the streets be exempt of the restrictions?

As a buisness owner on milton street and a resident of milton street. My staff and I would have no choice but to park on the over crowded jewel streets alongside the residents of the jewel streets and the visitors who already flock to said streets. These proposals would have a significant negative impact on my family and my business .
I hope you’ll put these comments into the consultation. Also, the argument has been put to me that the priority is that your customers can park. In your opinion, is this a good argument please?
I agree Mike. Parking can be difficult on
Bristol Avenue now. Even more so in the summer when people park up and head down to the beach for the day. People also park here (sometimes for several days) when getting the train elsewhere. If times are restricted elsewhere then visitors will be more likely to use these streets.
I can only envisage this will inconvenience Saltburn residents. Surely most people are in and out of the town within an hour or so anyway. On really busy days the Park and Ride system could be extended and/or people encouraged to travel into the town by public transport. Nobody wants this.
All of the above is fine and dandy, but is it going to be (1) enforced & (2) adhered too by people visiting Saltburn. If Loftus is anything to go by then both (1) & (2) will count for nothing as Loftus never see’s any Council Enforcement Team and most in Loftus disregard all Parking Restrictions on a regular basis.
Limiting parking on Marine Parade to four hours will mean those who have to park all day, because they live in a property on Marine Parade, or are visiting for a full day, will have to park elsewhere, Jewel Streets will suffer. Sounds a pointless and counter productive enforcement that will end in parking permits. As we know, six years ago all this was rejected by Saltburn residents for very valid reasons.
Saltburn already has an underutilised parking area – Sainsburys car park. Has the council considered approaching them to see if they are willing to rent part of the car park to the council. This could be used as a pay and display with perhaps up to 30/60 minutes free parking. The revenue to be used to cover the rental cost.
Living on the border of the proposed restriction area it seems inevitable that it will become increasingly difficult to park as the cars will just pushed outwards, you need to create extra space that people can actually use.

There are some positive aspects to these proposals, and some thought has obviously gone into them. I’d like to add a suggestion though – to keep residents of affected streets happy – free parking permits, say two per household. I lived in Kettering when similar proposals came into force and it was awful. There were endless complaints until residents got permits. People had to park half a mile from their front door, visiting friends and family had to pay to park or do the parking-spot-dance… looking out the windows every five minutes, then “Quick Aunt Doris!! There’s a space outside number 45!!! I’ll lie down in it, you get the Espace!!!” which was not as much fun as it sounds.
Will make things even worse for those living on the Jewel Streets as people will park there instead.
I live and park on Milton Street. I pay enough in excessive rent and council tax without having to move my car around every few hours. If this goes ahead I’ll be leaving Saltburn as I’m sure will many others. There is a huge, barely used car park on Milton Street already but you’d rather disrupt residents than your precious supermarket chain. You’re taking the absolute mick out of the residents. I rarely have trouble parking but if this goes ahead I definitely will! Expect protests ‘cos the residents won’t stand for this rubbish. Believe me.
Why has turnberry drive been mentioned for a no parking zone? The problem lies with with people parking on lindrick road right up to turnberry drive so cars have to dangerously edge out of turnberry drive, the no parking zone should be on lindrick either side of turnberry.

It’s hard enough for residents of Bath Street, Exeter Street and Bristol Avenue to find parking spaces especially Bath Street which is overused and full of visitors to Huntcliff Surgery and Moore’s Garage. If restrictions are enforced on Dundas Street people will park on the streets making it impossible for residents to park. The council should be promoting and encouraging the use of Park and Ride and public transport and maybe Northern Rail could capitalise on this and maybe use 3 carriages!!
Hi, I live on Marine Parade and although sometimes have to jiggle about when parking, at the moment I and quite a few of my neighbours find that the new restrictions will cause no end of confusion…but one question is what happens if one of us (residents ) wish to go away on holiday and leave our car outside (or near to) our house ?? Is there really any need for this proposal …Nearly forgot wonder where the staff/guests of the SPA are going to park ,we regularly have about a dozen parking daily along here
I visit Saltburn regularly with my family . May be we have just missed the survey where people have been asked How long we spend in Saltburn or How much money we spend in Saltburn. I am happy to park away from the beach and walk through the town centre. Why are the council not looking at long term plans. Looking for ideas to increase parking in Saltburn to keep this little gem of a town thriving. A big sign ” Beach and Cleveland Way Parking ” directing visitors to a car park design for just that VISITORS . Surely the council could find a piece of land and a long term solution. DON’T KILL SALTBURN OFF.

There will be an official public proposal in the future, for residents to examine, and a consultation period as well.

Hi, just been down on lower prom and the guy who rents out the beach huts didn’t seem to know any details about the parking, which would obviously have a serious effect on his business (ie who wants to hire a beach hut for 3 hours ? ) I expect the parking would effect a lot of the lower prom people and the amount of people using the newly refurbished Cliff Lift, If you are visiting the beach with children it would be for the day. Why has there not been a public consultation period where we can air our views before the TO was advertised in the Gazette ??
This will make parking in the jewel streets impossible I moved here 4 years ago because of the parking. As where I was before became impossible I am disabled with a limited walking range. This was fought the last time it surfaced I hope it will be again as its ill conceived the only thing which will suffer is tourist based trade and the residents
